Isolation Stand Details

The isolation stand that beats your foam!

Media

It is often necessary to isolate or "lift" the studio monitor speakers from your desk or stands so they don't resonate, don't act like a secondary (unwanted) source of sound. There are some isolation foams you can buy for cheap which gives you limited capabilities and often does not fitting your speakers' size - so you'll want something more aesthetic and not so pricy.

Sizes:

  • Base
    • 130x150, most likely for small speakers, like <5"
    • 150x190, probably will fit 5-7" the best
    • 200x200, for monitor cubes or sub
    • 200x250. for 7-8"
    • 230x230, 8" and above, in the illustration my Kali IN-8 v2 are standing on top

of them. Also the size of many speaker stands are 230x230.

  • Rod
    • 30 mm to 60 mm by 5 millimeter steps, choose the one that fits your needs.

Printing:

  • Materials required: PLA (PETG will do as well) & TPU
  • Supports are required for 01 base *
  • I printed with 40% infill, type: adaptive cubic / cubic-subdivision
  • Build plate adhesion: brim is required for 01 base * , please see slicer image of custom brim / ears around the “X”, it is required to avoid warping. Yes, even PLA would warp on such long straight edges and get off from the build plate!
  • Print sufficient numbers of parts:
    • 2x 01 base (your choice of size) (PLA/PETG)
    • 4x 02 rod (your choice of size) (PLA/PETG)
    • 8x 03 foot (TPU)
    • 8x 04 dampener (TPU) - If you put more than one piece of TPU components on a build plate it is

recommended to set printing order from by layer to by object in order to avoid too much TPU blobbing and stringing

Assembly:

  • As the 01 base is printed you will need to remove brims & supports, the side which originally facing top will receive the foot parts
    • The side which were facing the build plate will receive the dampener parts
    • Repeat this for the 2nd set of 01 base and 03 foot and 04 dampener parts
  • Turn the 2 printed 01 base parts facing each other with the dampeners and insert the 02 rod parts in-between
